DGL and Career Gear Team Up for the ‘Win with Heart’ Business Attire Drive in Cincinnati’s Northside

Cincinnati Alphas supports mission of Houston-based non-profit by co-hosting professional attire donation event

Win with Heart Career Attire Drive with Career Gear

The Delta Gamma Lambda (DGL) Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated along with Career Gear, recently hosted the Win with Heart Business Attire Drive that took place on Saturday, June 24 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, at the Greater Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church in Cincinnati’s Northside community. The purpose of the program was to encourage individuals to donate gently used or new professional attire. The items would then help Career Gear provide dignity and a fresh career path for those seeking gainful employment to become better providers their families need.

According to their website, Career Gear's mission is to “inspire resilience in men to overcome employment barriers through professional career development”, further adding “Our vision is a world where All men, from All backgrounds lead economically empowered lives.” Career Gear was established in 1998, in New York City, as their vision and mission empowered over 100,000 men across our country.

By the end of the event, there was a total of the following items donated

26 sports coats

57 suits

131 shirts (button ups and polos)

19 sweater vests

17 pairs of shoes

36 pairs of pants

16 belts

58 ties

5 outerwear

“We’d like to thank everyone involved in this effort including Career Gear and Janssen Pharmaceuticals of Johnson & Johnson for their support of this community building event as we are excited to collaborate on this endeavor”, says Brother Dan Benson of the Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter. “The economic impact of this type of service will not only positively affect the lives of men, but will serve as a resource to holistically build families.”

We want to thank everyone that came out to help in this event. We look forward to giving our support in future Career Gear events as they start their Cincinnati chapter. We will soon provide more information on our next collaboration with Career Gear coming in the Fall.
