The 2025 Tony Yates Queen City Golf Classic marks 10 years of dedication, community support, and investing in the future of our youth

The Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter has proudly hosted the Tony Yates Queen City Golf Classic for ten consecutive years. Over the past decade, it has become a flagship event that exemplifies our unwavering commitment to scholarship, service, and community leadership.
This year, members of the Delta Gamma Lambda chapter and beyond gathered at the prestigious Weatherington Country Club in West Chester, Ohio, an elite venue known for its pristine course and top-tier amenities. The event featured challenge holes, including a hole-in-one contest offering a one-year lease on a luxury Lexus and another with a $10,000 cash prize—raising the stakes and energizing our participants. We also invited a professional golf instructor to provide swing tips and analysis, making the experience both fun and educational, all while supporting our scholarship mission.
This year’s outing drew 124 golfers which included business executives, civic leaders, and philanthropic partners who all united in a shared vision of advancing education in this event. Their enthusiasm and participation highlight the strength of our network and our collective dedication to making a difference.
Since 1999, the Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated has used this event as a powerful platform to uplift our community. Originally initiated by Bro. LaVonn Berry as a means to bring friends and colleagues together for fellowship and philanthropy, the event has grown into a significant force for good as it raises funds to support educational opportunities for deserving students. The only year the event has not taken place was during the pandemic in 2020, but our commitment to service has remained resilient.
The Golf Classic is more than a sporting event; it’s a strategic initiative designed to fund scholarships that develop the next generation of leaders. Every dollar raised directly supports high-achieving students, helping to remove financial barriers and unlock their potential.
Golf’s unique blend of competition, camaraderie, and character makes it the perfect sport for our purpose. Its pace encourages meaningful conversations, networking, and reflection, all traits that align with our mission of service and leadership. Plus, golf appeals to a broad demographic, fostering inclusivity while providing a fun challenge.
All proceeds from this event benefit the Delta Gamma Lambda Foundation Scholarship Fund, which offers financial support to college-bound students demonstrating academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement. These scholarships are investments in future innovators and trailblazers - transforming lives and strengthening our community.
