Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is proud to once again partner with the Hoxworth Blood Center at the University of Cincinnati and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Phi Psi Omega Chapter for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Blood Drive.
This year’s blood drive will take place on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on the fourth floor of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, located at 50 East Freedom Way. In honor of the holiday, the Freedom Center will also offer free admission as part of its Fifth Third Community Day, making it a meaningful destination for service, reflection, and community engagement.
Since 2007, Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter has partnered with Hoxworth to address the ongoing and critical need for blood donations—particularly within African American communities, where blood type compatibility is essential for effective treatment. Hosting the drive at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center underscores the powerful connection between service, sacrifice, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice.
“Our dear Brother Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy is rooted in service to others,” said Brother Tramell Harper, President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter. “We honor his life and work by giving back in a way that directly impacts and saves lives. Through this partnership and the generosity of our community, we continue to uplift his vision of collective responsibility and compassion.”
For those unable to attend the drive at the Freedom Center, Hoxworth Blood Center welcomes donors at its various locations throughout the region. As a thank-you, donors may receive FREE UC puffy vest and a $10 Kroger Gift Card, while supplies last.
Community members are encouraged to share this opportunity with friends, family, and colleagues who may be interested in donating. Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be scheduled through Hoxworth in advance.
Together, let us honor Dr. King’s legacy through service—because one donation can make a life-saving difference.
